We’ve all heard of the Atkins diet. It was an inspiration to take off excess weight on my body but this is not good to reach your long term goal. There are other diets that work well too.

In order to lose weight and avoid carbohydrates, you must know what they are. On this type of diet, you will consume vegetable, dairy products, meats like beef, chicken and plenty of green vegetables. Avoid things like white bread and potatoes to prevent weight gain. Of course it will be difficult to stay away from your favorite foods like pasta and sandwiches made with white bread. But it will be worth it in the long run when you take off a few pounds.

In the beginning you may feel as though you have little strength but you will get over this feeling in a few days when your body adjusts to the idea of losing weight. This is something we all feel like with quitting smoking.

Always drink lots of water to stay hydrated and also to increase the metabolism rate. You can have a little bit of water with a touch of sweetness or a cup of something like coffee. Back to the Atkins diet, it took a lot of time and effort to follow it but once you get used to it, just like pool water, it becomes easy.

The next part is exercising to burn off calories and body fat. Almost any type of exercise will work well. You can walk, swim, run, bike and many other things. Don’t overwork yourself. You can do several sessions of exercise if you need to. Also, vary the exercises instead of doing the same thing over and over again. Try a short session of biking, then rest. Follow it with a short walk.
